Seven Clichés About Life That Actually Make Sense

We all know those Pinterest perfect quotes about life, encouraging us to live in the moment and abandon all regrets. The thing is, some of the most overused sayings actually ring pretty true and if you can look past the cliche you may find some serious words of wisdom.

So as an ode to those cliched quotes we love to pin to our inspiration boards, here are seven that I try and live by...

"Do What You Love"

I'm a big believer in careers that blend our talents, our skills, and our passions to create a job we love. I know it sounds crazy Gen-Y of me, but if I've learned anything about life so far it's that it's too short to hide behind our dreams and not chase them every step of the way.

"Be Kind, For Everyone You Meet Is Fighting A Battle You Know Nothing About"

We're all going through something - whether big or small - and it's rarely written on our face for the world to see and understand. Showing kindness to everyone you come across in your day to day life is so important I think - we never know how our little acts of kindness can have a positive impact on someone else's day.

"Good Things Take Time"

Sometimes life feels like it moves very slow, and while we're working hard at building lives for ourselves that we love it can be sometimes hard to see any concrete progress. I love reminding myself that good things take time - it helps me remember that life will always be a journey, and that all good things take hard work and determination.

"This Too Shall Pass"

When bad things happen, I used to be really paralysed by them and not be able to see or think clearly enough to be able to move forward. I've learned over the years to remind myself that everything, sooner or later, will pass, and that what's important is making it through and being the best person you can be in the face of life working against you. I always ask myself, in six months time will this matter to me, or will my life have moved on without it?

"You Are What You Do, Not What You Say You’ll Do"

It's so easy to aspire to be a certain way, yet go against it every day by not breaking old habits and moving forward in our own personal development. It's so easy to talk the talk, but I really do believe that what defines us is what we do with our lives. Of course what we say is also what we do, but actions will always speak louder than words.

"Quality Over Quantity"

A huge lesson I've learned over the years is how life really is about quality over quantity, and the importance of seeking out quality in all areas of our lives. When it comes to friendships having a tight bunch of awesome friends will always mean way more to me than a roomful of acquaintances, and when it comes to how I spend my money I'd much rather invest in a few high quality items than overload myself with possessions I just don't need.

"Keep Moving Forward"

I love this mantra - keep moving forward. Something I'm always fighting against is my fear of staying stagnant - I'm forever seeking personal growth and development. I never want to be the same person I was six months ago, let alone a year, and whenever the future starts to scare me I always remind myself of the promise I've made to always be moving forward.

What about you, what are your favourite quotes to live by?
