What It Looks & Feels Like To Run A Big-Hearted Coaching Business

I talk a lot about being a big-hearted business owner.

It's the best way I know to describe my mindset and approach when it comes to running my business - because there's a whole lot  of heart and intention behind the work I do as a big-hearted coach, and I see within all of my clients and the awesome humans I connect with through this blog, my Weekly Letters, and my podcast that there's a whole lot of heart and intention behind the work they're doing in the world too.

So today I want to dive a little deeper into what it actually looks and feels like for me to run a big-hearted business, in the hopes it can hold some space for you to explore what it could look like for you too, no matter what type of business you're running and awesome work you're doing in the world along the way.

Eight Mantras & Reminders For When You're Feeling Anxious & Overwhelmed In Your Business

Running a business can feel really overwhelming sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, being your own boss is awesome but a dream job is still a job and it still has its own stressors, anxieties, and overwhelming days along the way too.

We're in charge of everything, from client work, to customer support, marketing, accounting, and so much more. We wear so many hats and we have a whole lot of responsibility on our shoulders to show up, do the work, and keep our business moving forward each day.

And now and again, it can all start to feel like a little too much.

Maybe you're worried about money and overwhelmed by the pressure and anxiety that comes from being in charge of making your own income.

Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed with your client workload and struggling to find enough hours in the day to get everything done.

Maybe you've made a mistake or faced a setback or disappointment and you're starting to fear that everything in your business is starting to fall apart.

Maybe you're just exhausted and in need of some rest but your business is demanding of you something you don't feel like you can give it right now.

Whatever it is, I have eight mantras and reminders for you today for when you're feeling anxious and overwhelmed in your business. My hope is that these can hold some space for you to find some peace, courage, and perspective in those moments so you can continue to move forward along the way.

Answers To The Questions I'm Always Asked About Building & Running A Big-Hearted Coaching Business

I’m now in my fourth year of being a creative coach and starting this business is, without a doubt, one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I’ve worked with over 150 awesome, incredible, and inspiring human beings who are making amazing things happen in the world right now (you can find out a little more about some of them and the work we’ve done together here).

I’m able to have full control over my time and my schedule so I can make my business work around my life, my family, and my health.

I have an awesome community who I create content for and I have met so many incredible humans through my Weekly Letters, my blog, and my podcast.

And I’m able to make a sustainable income from my business that has enabled me to be the breadwinner in my family, to live in a city we love, and travel to some amazing places all over the world too.

It’s a privilege and a joy to do the work I’m able to do in the world, and I’m so grateful every day for my business, for my crazy-awesome clients, and for this life that I’ve built for myself.

I've coached many other awesome coaches over the years - from life coaches, to health coaches, business and creative coaches, relationship coaches and more - and I also receive lots of emails from budding coaches with questions all about building and running a coaching business so today I'm taking 12 of my most asked questions and answering them for you here on the blog. I hope they can be of some encouragement and guidance for you if you're starting to build your own big-hearted coaching business or thinking about taking the leap soon.

Uncover Your Big-Hearted Business: A Mini Book From Me To You

After over three years now of coaching some crazy-awesome big-hearted creatives, I've seen time and time again that some of the most powerful work we do together is to help them uncover and discover what their big-hearted business actually is.

Because we can have all of the creative hopes and dreams in the world, but if we don't actually know what our business is, what it does and who it's for, and what we sell and how we deliver that, we can't actually build something that is impactful, fulfilling, and sustainable along the way.

So that's why I've created Uncover Your Big-Hearted Business, a mini book filled with questions and exercises to help you get to the heart of your business and hold space for you to take intentional, purposeful, and strategic action in your creative work and life moving forward.

Every Book I Read (+ Listened To) In December & January

Books are my happy place.

My favourite way to spend my life minutes when I'm not working, sleeping, or hanging out with my favourite humans is to dive into a good book (or audiobook) and lose myself in its pages for a while.

2017 was an awesome year for me for reading. I discovered so many authors and books that I fell in love with, my love affair with audiobooks grew stronger, and near the end of 2017 I started to embrace reading books on Kindle too which made my husband very happy as we have absolutely no more space in our apartment to store any more books. I already have a list of books I can't wait to read this year, some new releases that I'm super excited to come out, and a few favourites that I want to re-read too. And today I want to share with you everything I read (and listened to) in December and January and if and why I loved them...

Our Wedding Day

I was looking through our wedding photos the other day, deciding on which ones to print and frame on my new desk, when I realised that I haven't shared the day over here with you yet. It's been over six months now since that summer day in Paris and I can't wipe the smile of my face whenever I look back through these photos and remember all of our favourite moments from the day.

Having our wedding day in Paris was awesome.

We had our legal ceremony a few days beforehand back here in Manchester at the town hall with just our parents there as our witnesses. We got ready together in the morning, made our way to the town hall and met our parents there, said "I do" and signed the register, then left the room to "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac. We went for a meal the six of us, then Alex and I checked into a hotel (which may sound a little crazy when your own apartment is a 15 minute walk away, but you only get married once right? And if you're ever in Manchester and looking for something extra special, the suites at the King Street Townhouse are pretty awesome), before meeting up with our friends for a drink to celebrate, and then we ordered pizza to our hotel room and it was the best way to end our first day as a married couple.

And if that's all we did to get married it would have been enough, what mattered most to us was that we said "I do" and became husband and wife. But I'm also so glad we planned something super special in Paris for our wedding day, and to spend four days there with our families is something I will never, ever, forget.

10 Podcast Episodes I Loved Listening To In December

A day rarely goes by where I don't listen to a podcast or two.

I listen to them as I'm getting ready for the day, when I'm cleaning, when I'm having a slow and quiet morning, when I'm travelling, when I'm walking somewhere - any chance I get, I'm diving into my podcast feed and enjoying the awesome content that's ready and waiting for me.

Today I want to share with you some of my favourite episodes that I listened to last month - some were brand new episodes, others are old episodes I just discovered or that I decided to listen to again. Hopefully on this list will be something that will entertain, inform, encourage, and inspire you too!

Why I Choose To Go Deeper, Not Wider, In My Business

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you that one of my promises to 2018 is to continue to go deeper, not wider, in my business.

For today's Weekly Letter I want to dive a little more into this, share with you why I choose to do this and what it really looks like for me right now, and hopefully hold some space for you to explore what it could look like for you too.

So why do I choose to go deeper, not wider?

The most honest answer I can give you is that it's what my gut and my intuition has always guided me to do. I feel more aligned in my business when I approach it in this way, and I feel more connected to my core purpose, message, and values too.

10 Places In The UK & Ireland I'd Love To Travel To & Explore This Year

One of my biggest personal intentions for this year is to explore more of the beautiful country that I call home.

Alex and I have travelled to some really awesome places these past few years - from California, to New York, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Venice, and Greece - and we still have lots of places overseas that we want to visit and explore, but now that we have our puppy George we really want to take more holidays together as the three of us and really make the most of the awesome country that we already live in.

So I've made a little UK travel bucket list for inspiration for this year and I'm super excited to hopefully tick a few of these off in 2018.
