How A Joint Venture Webinar Helped Me Get Out Of Debt & Move Forward With My Business

I’m going to get really real with you today.

I started my creative business with absolutely nothing. I even had minus numbers in the bank thanks to debts from my student days, and in the beginning I had to scrimp and save for every single £10 I invested into my brand. Two years ago I hit absolute rock bottom after my second mental health breakdown and I found myself without a job, with only a few months living costs in savings, and back home with my parents so I could start to try and put my life back together.

All I had was this blog. I started this online space with no bigger intentions than just to create and escape from the daily stresses in my life. But what it brought me was so much more than that. It gave me the confidence I needed to move forward, to believe that I had more to offer this world, and it was the gateway into the career and business that I have today. After spending two years blogging my heart out, taking on freelance writing and content strategy projects, and finally figuring out a way to put to use the passion that led me to studying for a degree in Social Work into a creative career that actually makes me excited to get out of bed every morning, I took the leap and started my creative coaching business in January 2015.

And like I said, I started with absolutely nothing. No start-up funds, no money in the bank to fund any huge (or even medium sized) investments to speed up my business growth, and a debt weighing over my head that felt impossible to chip away at each month. My biggest goal this year was to build a creative business that feels as purposeful as it does profitable, and more than anything to find the financial stability that I need to finally move out of my family home and stand on my own two feet again. And you know what? I’ve done exactly that. In five weeks Alex and I will finally be moving into our own place, for the past five months I’ve been making a solid full time income from my creative business, and more than anything I’ve built a lifestyle and a career that allows me to thrive alongside an illness that for a very long time felt completely debilitating.

And I couldn’t have made any of this happen without a joint webinar that I hosted with my awesome friend Mariah Coz back in May.

Back then I had started to make a full time income each month, but Alex and I still had debt that needed to be paid off and we didn’t have enough financial stability or savings yet to take that leap into moving out into our own place, and it was making me miserable. I was working 10-15 hour days, waking up in the middle of the night worried about money, and aching for our own place again and to finally start living the life we wanted to together. I lived in constant fear that I wasn’t going to be able to do this; to truly be able to bring in a consistent full time income month in month out, and that I'd be back where I was a year ago and feeling so disabled from my illness and so much of a burden on the people around me.

So when Mariah asked me to partner up on a webinar together, I thought why not. May 2015 was my month of some serious hustling - I tripled my income from the previous month, I got booked out weeks in advance with coaching clients, and I launched my first digital product too. So much of this wouldn’t have been possible without that one simple webinar.

Maybe you joined us for it - there’s a replay here. We talked all about building your email list and making your first $1000 online. I felt completely clueless about how webinars worked, but thankfully Mariah knew her stuff. We made about $2000 while we were live on air, which was enough to put together with the rest of my savings to pay off that debt once and for all (many happy tears were shed that day). But so much more than that, following on from the webinar I had a huge influx of client enquiries, which allowed me to make enough to put a deposit and first months rent down on the apartment we’re moving into next month.

So I’m not joking when I say that one simple joint venture webinar changed everything for me this year.

Once the debt was gone, once I knew we were finally going to be moving out, and once I had the opportunity to work with even more crazy talented coaching clients, things really started to fall into place. And ever since then all I’ve been doing is just moving forward each week towards bigger goals and making things happen every single step of the way.

The reason I’m sharing all of this with you today is because I truly believe in the power of webinars to move us forward in our business. I’ve seen how powerful they’ve been in my own journey, and how much of a game changer they’ve been for my creative friends too. But I also know that there’s not much I can teach you about them. I’ve got a ton of awesome and exciting joint venture webinars and digital workshops coming up over the next few months, but I’m still finding my feet with this medium and how best it can work for me and my brand.

But Mariah? She seriously knows her stuff. She knows how to prepare, strategise, and promote a webinar that actually moves your business forward towards your income goals. She knows how to pitch in a way that doesn’t feel salesy - but can still bring in $20k+ while you’re live on air. She knows how to grow you email list through webinars, get your audience excited about who you are and what you do, and how to set up all the tech stuff too.

If you want to move forward with your business this year, reach and surpass your income goals, and master the art of webinars, Mariah has a course just for you. If you’ve been reading this blog for a long time you’ll know that this is a completely ad free space, so you’ll know that for me to support a product on the blog it’s something I truly believe in. Webinar Rockstar is without a doubt one of those products.

When Mariah told me all about Webinar Rockstar I was so excited about what this course means for our online community. Webinars can feel like such an overwhelming arena, and Mariah makes it super simple, super strategic, and super do-able for you. So if you know that webinars are going to be the catalyst for game changing growth in your business, but you have no idea where to start or how to make them profitable, Webinar Rockstar is for you.

And on a personal note, Mariah is hands down one of my favourite people on the internet. She’s hilarious, super smart, and she seriously cares about you and your journey. And with Webinar Rockstar you have direct access to her with a mastermind group and live Q&A - and take it from the girl who has late night Skype calls with her when I’m stressed and feeling burnt out, she’s the kind of person you want in your corner when you’re working hard to make big and beautiful things happen online.

To finish...

More than anything, the biggest takeaway from this part of my journey is that it takes a brave step into the unknown to make radical change in our lives and our business. I was petrified before we went live with our webinar in May, but I'm so glad fear didn't hold me back from moving forward and bridging the gap between where I was then and where I am now.

All links to Webinar Rockstar in this post are affiliate links, which means I take a small commission on any sales. This is the first time I’ve ever partnered up for an affiliate launch, but I believe so much in this product that it was a no brainer for me - I would share Webinar Rockstar with you guys with or without an affiliate link, because I just know how much of a game changer it could be for you and your business.
